Encerrado Para Obras is an itinerant Theatre and Music Company created in Coimbra in 1995, currently based in Casal de Ermio, Lousã.

The company has always aimed for the democratization of the cultural offer, creating itinerant shows with great artistic quality that have remarkably enriched the imagination of several generations from the north to the south of Portugal and overseas. 

 

In its 31 years of existence, the company:

– created 56 original productions in the areas of theater, music and street entertainment;

– presented shows in more than 160 municipalities from north to south of the country (including 3 trips to the Azores Archipelago), performing mores than of 3000 shows.

– has partnered with dozens of entities related to the promotion of scientific knowledge, namely Science Alive Centers and Museums

– established partnerships with IPSS (Private Social Solidarity Institutions)

– organized training sessions and various events in several municipalities in the central region.

 

The company often presents its shows abroad, having already performed at festivals in France, Spain, Italy, and Romania.

 

LINHA ESTÉTICA

In thirty years of uninterrupted activity, the company has developed its own aesthetic line; here are some of the characteristics that best define it:

- original dramaturgical, musical and plastic creation;

- fusion of artistic languages, namely theater and music;

- humor, interaction with the public and improvisation;

- transversality of content and audiences;

– qualification and multidisciplinary nature of the interpreters

– invention of unique stage machines with truly sui generis original mechanisms

 

STREET ART

Connected early on to street animation (its first production in this area dates back to 1998), the company gained greater visibility in this field since 2015, the year in which the company's director created the Da Cruz One Man Band project, the only one-man traveling orchestra in our country. Following the success of this project, the group created several unique musical devices in 2017, including A Chiclateira and in 2024 BICICLÉTICA, an eco-friendly, one hundred percent autonomous bicycle, equipped with a solar panel and 5 gears that activate different devices (a washing machine, a clothesline, a food processor, among others).

These shows have toured the country from north to south, and more recently have also been performed abroad. 

 

HISTORIACAL MUSIC

To enrich the company's musical repertoire, the shows Boldie & Cloide, a fun musical journey to the Roaring Twenties, and Trov'antiga, a journey into the world of troubadours, with songs in barbaric Latin, Galician-Portuguese, Catalan, Sephardic, etc., were created.

In 2023, the show "Voz dos Avós da Nascente até Foz" (Voice of the Grandparents from Source to Mouth) stands out, from which the CD "Memórias de Água Doce" (Memories of Freshwater) emerged, featuring original Portuguese folk music with themes inspired by stories told about the Ceira River.

In 2025, an audio version of the piece with the same name, Todos ao Monte e Fé em Deus (Everyone to the Mountain and Faith in God), was made, containing songs inspired by Os Contos de Fajão (The Tales of Fajão).

 

TEATRO E CIÊNCIA

Since 2005, Encerrado para Obras has been developing the interface between Art and Science, having created 10 original shows inspired by scientific themes (Physics, Cloning, Light, Geography, Renewable Energies, among others). Most of these productions were developed in collaboration with Science Centers, Museums and Municipalities. 

More recently, the following stand out:

– O Pai Natal Orchestra (2014), a concert that is also a geography lesson;

– Quimicomic (2019), a musical comedy with lots of chemical reactions on stage;

– O último que adenda a luz (2023) the most recent production that addresses the theme of Energy (no longer in circulation)

 

OUTRAS ATIVIDADES

The company has regularly developed diverse activities in the area of ​​artistic training, with particular emphasis on: 

– Introductory courses in theater;

– Juggling – Juggling Workshops; 

– Obras Feitas – a theater group from Cercipenela, directed and conceived by the company between 2009 and 2019;

 

The company organized 4 editions of the Encontros do Pé na Rua Festival, in Penela, between 2008 and 2011.

Throughout its history, the company has received annual and one-off support from DGArtes on several occasions. Going through a period of great dynamism, in 2022 the company secured support from DGArtes for the three projects it applied for, namely:

– CD A Química do Amor

– projeto de teatro O último que acenda a luz

– the community project on Art and Active Aging, Voz dos Avós da Nascente até à Foz, which included a vast collection of stories among the elderly population, the release of a CD with 12 original songs, a film, an exhibition of paintings, and numerous concerts.

 

Since establishing its headquarters in Lousã, the company has been actively working with the community, carrying out several ongoing projects in collaboration with the local council and neighboring municipalities, as well as more than a dozen non-profit social solidarity institutions.
